Lyla Foy: Gemeinsame Sache mit Mercury Rev-Sänger für die erste Single aus dem neuen Album!
Seit Lyla Foys Debütalbum „Mirrors The Sky“ ist viel passiert: eigene Touren, Supports für The National, Midlake, Fleet Foxes und Mercury Rev. Und die Arbeit an Album Nummer zwei, dass die in London lebende Songwriterin endlich angekündigt hat – mit der ersten Single „Far Behind You„.
Für sie hat sich Lyla auch direkt Mercury Revs Sänger Jonathan Donahue ans Mikro geholt. Aber lassen wir Lyla selbst sprechen:
„This is Far Behind You, the first single from my new record. It’s about chasing a dream that never happens: an ode to that mission. If creative frustration makes you feel trapped or tiny – keep chasing – or at least write about it. After finishing the track, I wanted to see if I could get another voice in there with mine, ideally that of Jonathan Donahue from Mercury Rev. There was nothing about the way he sung my words that emulated me, it simply became him. Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift, Solange, MGMT) mixed the single and completely brought it to life with a whole new intensity. So here’s this weird little pop song. Hope you like it!“
Ein weiteres Beispiel dafür, wie Lyla ihre Gefühle offen legt, ist die neue Single „Try My Heart“ und ist damit ein weiterer Einblick in die emotionale Reise, die sie während des Entstehungsprozesses des Albums erlebt hat:
„With this song I’m trying to be frank about cyclical swings in temperament and I wanted to set all that talk about feelings to a driving, Krautrock-esque beat. It’s made all the more bizarre with Gina Tratt’s animated video which makes me question my sanity. Enjoy!“
